Audrey graduated from Mankato High School in 1939 and from Grinnell College in 1943. She worked as a secretary for RCA Victor Company in Philadelphia and as a stewardess for Northwest Airlines during the war years, later becoming a homemaker and community volunteer who headed the 60-member League of Women Voters group in Deephaven. She stayed close to her neighborhood bridge group, playing together near 60 years.

Audrey became interested in genealogy through assisting her mother with family research and accompanying her on many trips throughout New England, later continuing research and visiting sites in England related to Spencer/Thompson/Howard and Boynton heritage. She helped many others search for their ancestors, too. She and her mother were active members in historical associations in Southern Minnesota and throughout New England. Audrey gave a presentation on their research at the 2010 Annual Meeting of the Spencer Family Association held in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, near where her distant relative David Thomson arrived from Plymouth, England in 1623 to establish New Hampshires first settlement.
