Grinnell in the News 2013-07-17
Summary:
Mark Japinga has done it again. Tuesday he won a fourth night on the popular quiz show "Jeopardy!"
"The young man is on a roll, can he keep it going?" host Alex Trebek asked as the show ended.
His winning streak started Thursday in a game of back and forths that left family and friends at a watch party on the edge of their seats. He won Friday then again Monday after spending the early minutes of the show in the negatives and missing all three Daily Doubles.
On Tuesday, Japinga started out strong asking every question correctly for the "Who's your caddie" category. He held the lead for most of the game, losing it to a competitor only briefly.
Ahead by $3,300 for Final Jeopardy, Japinga wagered $15,000 of his $20,900. It was enough, and his four-day winnings total $112,600.
Japinga is a 2005 graduate of Holland High School. He earned his degree in political science at Grinnell College in Iowa and now lives in Washington, D.C., working as a legislative researcher for Stateside Associates in Alexandria, Va. His parents, Jeff and Lynn Japinga, and some extended family still live in Holland.
Japinga will appear on "Jeopardy!" for the fifth time today.
