Your big move is right around the corner and you have a million things left on your to-do list. Don’t let your health take a back seat with all these other important tasks keeping you on your feet around the clock.  Here are some ways you can take care of yourself while taking care of moving business:

Stay Happy and Hydrated

Like any other physical activity, it is important to keep hydrated when you are moving, especially in the summer. Your body can suffer from heat exhaustion much quicker when you are active in the sun. You will be lifting heavy boxes and furniture, and you don’t want to drain out by midday! Don’t wait until the day of the move to start your hydration process, start a week or two in advance to ensure that your body is ready for the big day. Keep water jugs or water bottles handy. If you are hiring a moving service to help out with the big items like furniture and antiques, keep hydration in mind for your furniture movers as well and offer them some water!

Stretch out the Stress

Unless you work in a factory or warehouse, we’re guessing that you don’t lift heavy boxes and furniture on a regular basis. You will be bending and lifting in ways your body is not used to. The last thing you need is to end up with a hurt back or a pulled muscle in the middle of your move. You want to have relaxed muscles and a strong back, so that the move is easier on your body. Stretch your arms, legs, and back periodically throughout the move and days leading up to your move, and you should be good to go!

Take a Breathing Break

The days leading up to a move, and the day of a move can be very chaotic. There is so much to do and time keeps running out. All too often we become so indulged in our daily tasks that we forget the importance of a mental break. Give yourself a minute to breathe. Take a break from packing and have a latte.  Stop reviewing your to-do list in your head and listen to some relaxing music–anything that gives you a break from the ongoing stress of your move. We often prepare ourselves the most unknowingly when we rest our minds. So if anything, give your brain a few moments each day to recover and prepare for the next day’s tasks.

Remember, this stressful time is just a part of a bigger picture. Your health and peace of mind is more important than anything.  Stay positive in your thoughts and spend time thinking about the future.
