Towards next generation libraries
Bryan Alexander 2013-06-21
Starting next week I’m participating in an innovate project about the future of libraries. Hosted by Carthage College, Forecasting Next Generation Libraries is a “course-ference”, which “combines a virtual conference of online presentations and discussions with on-line course methodologies.”
Participants will learn, reflect on, and discuss possible library futures. From July 1 through August 19th they have access to presentations, panel discussions, a virtual poster session, and each other’s comments. Panel topics include students, publishers, technology, higher education (my panel), and, of course, libraries themselves. Josh Morrill kicks things off with a solidly researched scenarios presentation. I wrap things up with a final session.
This is an innovative and welcome venture. Not only is the future of libraries a vital topic, but the course-ference model is a fun (and inexpensive) one.
