Letter Opposing Pro Codes Act

On December 6, 2024, ARL sent a letter to Senate leadership opposing the Pro Codes Act. Extending copyright to codes and standards that are incorporated by reference into law would inhibit public access to information. Even if standards incorporated into the law by reference could retain copyright protection, their reproduction would be a fair use. Library associations, civil society organizations, and disability rights groups signed the letter.
