This American School Project
Education Rethink 2013-04-02
Last year, I took pictures of school during testing week. The goal here was to look at the space and how it changed during testing week: testing signs, stacks of books, iPads gone, etc. Yesterday, I was reminded of this project when I saw someone post a picture of a door with a testing sign.
I want to do something similar, but expand it a little. The project will be called This American School. The basic concept is taking picture of the story of school as a space. In other words, what does the school itself look like, free of students? What does it say about our values? Our systems? Our structures?
I want to assemble the photos into a sort-of "day in the life of an American school" video, free of words. Just visuals and music, sharing what our schools look like from the inside.
Here's where you can help:
I'm looking for quality photographs (be creative here) of your school without students. Think hallways, cafeterias, gym, classrooms, staff lounge, etc. Photograph whatever stands out to you. It can be positive or negative. I want to capture the beauty and the brokenness of our schools and let the pictures tell a story.
Once you've taken your photographs, please send them to john@educationrethink.com, along with the name that you want used on the credits.
