Dodgers Please
Education Rethink 2013-09-20
This is the example our young people have these days. As Charles Barkley would say "I am not a role model" unfortunately professional athletes are role models, and our children look up to them. What they showed to the children is that winners are to show little to no class when they win.
Yes, I am a Diamondbacks fan. However I grew up in Az when there was no team and at that time I was a fan of the Dodgers. Baseball is a sport rich in tradition and generally in all sports there are certain things you do not do.
Now the Dodgers have every reason to celebrate they deserved to win the Division, they are that good. Nobody can fault them for being jubilant on the field or in the locker room after the win. However to come back on the field only to jump fences to get into the pool was a sorry look at the professional athlete.
As a principal I constantly look to my students to carry themselves as leaders and respect themselves in victory or defeat. It amazes me that students in 7th and 8th grade can do this but adult athletes making millions cannot.
