EU data rules could ‘devastate’ development work

"Proposed European restrictions on how personal data can be used for scientific research will have a “devastating impact” on efforts to reduce disease and poverty in the developing world, a coalition of development science experts warn.By requiring consent for most uses of individuals’ information, including age, location and health conditions, and limiting the situations in which these data can be used, European legislators will stifle progress in medicine and food security, they say."
