iDesignColleges and universities face a surprising new skills gap within their own ranks: instructional designers. With instructional design job postings increasing by as much as triple, the demand for trained instructional design professionals is far outpacing supply. Higher education is facing a shortage of talent—and evidence-based practice in learning sciences and technology—to navigate a complex new landscape of online and digital learning.  To tackle this challenge, Instructional design firm iDesign recently announced its LX Pathways initiative, to help learning experience design professionals gain skills through a new program developed to help close the skills shortage in qualified instructional design professionals.  LX Pathways is a “choose your own edventure” competency-based approach to acquiring beginning and advanced instructional design and instructional technology skills, with a focus on quality and leadership in the field. The program has stackable credentials leading to certifications in Instructional Technologist and Learning Architect. The program was piloted with the Harvard Graduate School of Education and several other institutions, who provided substantial feedback that shaped its development.   Join us for this discussion to learn more about the instructional design talent gap—and how LX Pathways and other programs are working to close it. Panelists: Whitney Kilgore, Chief Academic Officer, iDesign; Patrice Torcivia Prusko, Associate Director, Learning Design, Harvard University Graduate School of Education Teaching and Learning Lab
