Follow up to Whistleblower Says Postal Service Defied Court Orders On Ballot See Also Law Dork: “The Justice Department went to the U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday, asking the justices to immediately let the Trump administration enforce the U.S. Postal Service’s new restrictions on mail ballots — despite multiple procedural reasons why the matter is not even appropriately before the justices yet. The request, moreover, comes just two days after Sen. Richard Blumenthal released whistleblower information raising serious questions about the rushed implementation of a new system created for implementing the new restrictions. There is, Blumenthal wrote in quoting from the whistleblower’s warning, “substantial risk of a ‘catastrophic failure’ of the system that could ‘derail the midterm elections.’” Despite that, the Postal Service and Trump administration are seeking to move ahead, and Solicitor General John Sauer rushed his shadow docket request to the Supreme Court on Thursday afternoon.
