“One nation, indivisible — except if you’re gay.” Freedom to Marry to run marriage ad in D.C. on the day before the justices are slated to consider whether to hear one or more of the marriage cases.
On Sunday, Freedom to Marry is launching a one-day television ad campaign in Washington, D.C. The ad, unveiled Friday morning, starts by focusing in on the states with marriage equality:
But then, the ad shifts to the states banning same-sex couples from marrying, noting: "They're taxed unfairly, denied Social Security and parenting rights, and can lose a family home when their loved one dies":
"Every day of denial means real harm to real families," the announcer goes on to say, tracking with comments made by Freedom to Marry President Evan Wolfson at a discussion with reporters earlier this week:
The ad concludes with the message for its target audience, the Supreme Court justices and those with whom they interact: "It's time to end marriage discrimination."
