A Brazilian Security Guard Has Confessed To Killing 39 People, Police Claim

Police in Brazil have arrested a man they claim has admitted to killing 39 people.
Thiago Henrique Gomes da Rocha is said to have deliberately targeted certain people, including women and the homeless, the BBC reported.
The 26-year-old hospital security guard was arrested in the city of Goiânia on Tuesday.

His arrest came two months after a special task force was set up following a spate of murders in the city that started in January, ITV News reported.
It is claimed Gomes da Rocha would approach his victims on a motorbike with his face hidden and stage a robbery before shooting them dead and leaving without their possessions.

At a press conference, police chief Deusny Aparecido described Gomes da Rocha as a “cold person” who “killed out of anger”, Sky News reported.
"He had no link to any of his victims and chose them at random," Aparecido said. "It could have been me, you, or your children.
"He felt anger at everything and everyone."

Officers said his first victim is thought to have been 14-year-old Barbara Luiza Ribeiro Costa in January.
An unnamed police official was quoted by the BBC as saying Gomes de la Rocha called his victims by numbers, from one to 39, and his anger only subsided after committing a murder.
He would then feel remorse, which only acted to fuel his fury further, police said.
Sky News also reported Gomes da Rocha tried to cut his wrists with a broken light bulb while being held in a police cell this week.
He is currently awaiting a court hearing, and is also being investigated over 90 robberies, the BBC said.
