Tied chords after dotted rhythm in pitch-before-duration mode

New Ideas : Sibelius Feedback Community 2018-04-14

Summary:

I switched from Finale and I very much appreciate Sibelius's pitch-before-duration setting for note entry (Preferences > Note Input > Specify pitch, then duration) because that is my "native language." ๐Ÿ™‚ But there's a glitch when adding TIES to CHORDS with DOTTED RHYTHM using STEP-TIME entry. Specifically, the tie is added only to the bottom note of the chord. To reproduce, make sure pitch-before-duration is on and press N to start step-time entry, then: (1) hold down notes for a chord on the MIDI keyboard (like C-E-G) and press 5, for a quarter note (in "Finalese"), (2) press the dot, for dotted rhythm, and then (3) press Enter for a tie. You'll notice at step 2 that the bottom note of the chord become the focus (it's the only one still colored blue) and so at step 3 the tie is added only to the bottom note. (See attached graphic.) I recognize that those who didn't start with Finale probably don't use pitch-before-duration, but please look at this seriously because I'm trying to woo my Finale friends and I want to be able to tell them that nothing in their muscle memory needs to change when doing step-time entry!
