The Internet of Things (IoT) presents opportunities for innovation in domains ranging from smart homes to smart cities. On the other hand, many IoT devices ship with security flaws that put consumers at risk and create broader security issues for Internet Service Providers (ISPs); in some cases, IoT vendors have stopped supporting the devices entirely, resulting in malfunctioning (or even non-functioning) IoT devices. Additionally, the proliferation of IoT devices, many of which are controlled from cloud services, allows device vendors to collect—and potentially share—an unprecedented amount data about consumers.
