My artist friend, Taz Ahmed's poetry is showcased in this video tying together her history, history of surveillance of Brown people in India and the election. "Earlier this year I was stunned to learn that fingerprinting came about as a way for the British to track Brown people when they colonized India. I was particularly in awe of the juxtaposition that in South Asia, when people vote they use fingerprints to keep track of who voted. Yes, we all should vote, but we also should keep in mind that tools that help us have a voice in democracy are also the same tools that were used to keep people like us down.
