Blog #5: Open Access Publishing – INSC542 Social Informatics

Summary:

"For this blog, I chose to look at Walt Crawford’s “Idealism and Opportunism: A Gold OA Overview” from his book Open-access journals: Idealism and opportunism. I chose this article because I’ve been interested in the Open Access movement in scholarly publishing and want to know more about it. It strikes me as one of those trends that has good intentions and great potential for benefits, especially for libraries and their patrons, but its drawbacks are certainly apparent as well."
