Open Access Update

Amyluv's bookmarks 2017-09-22

Summary:

"The open access environment continues to develop, with more independent players entering the service space and traditional publishers building or acquiring open access services and features. The ever present issue for open access service start-ups is sustainable funding: how can services gain funding and at the same time continue a neutral development path? We are unusual in this country in Jisc having grown with sector support to run centralised services based purely on user need, developed according to user feedback and with a neutral market position towards other systems and content. We are pleased to report our service developments in this issue across the whole portfolio of our open access services; extending Router to work directly with the EPrints and DSpace repositories, working with Crossref and building relationships with publishers for content provision; refreshing JULIET and working with funders on policy developments; releasing a new version of Monitor, working with institutions to build a national picture for APC use; working with system suppliers to create an EPrints compliance checker, and investigations with our members into possible new services. All part of the Jisc subscription."
