Summary:

The Social Development Goals (SDG) Knowledge Hub, managed by the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), is an online resource centre for news and commentary regarding the implementation of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including all 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

They recently published an article that raised awareness of the benefits of open data and data sharing for the protection of forests and addressing climate problems. They argue that an example can be found in the role that open data played during our combat against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The article discusses that the current pandemic reinforced the importance of data sharing in establishing awareness of global problems, and for appropriate interpretations and dissemination of data. In addition, data transparency is key to support higher levels of ambition for the roles of forests in climate change action.
