Summary:

[Google transl.] Learn what you want, the library thinks about it

Open access yes, but on which side? On the production of content, freely accessible on websites or in repositories of university faculties? Or also, and above all, on that of the distribution of contents, united in easy to consult, generalist or disciplinary aggregations?

For some time now, the central issue in print publishing has been how to make it easier for small publishers to access bookshops by overcoming the distribution bottleneck. The crucial issue for the future of free access is how to arrange, communicate and organize content on platforms that are also in open access. This dilemma is all the more pressing as the large publishing groups operating in the field of scientific editorial communication have launched journals in open access, appropriating processes that were once strictly the responsibility of libraries or institutional repositories. As the Italian Open Access list accurately documents, the APC (Article Processing Charges) methodology has strengthened the economic position of large groups and the attractiveness of their publishing platforms and, at the same time, has further weakened the library sector, which hoped to build an alternative model of editorial communication on the open access line.
