There is also the University of Pisa among the partners of Primage, the project funded by the European Union under Horizon 2020 with over 10 million euros, which aims to create an oncology biobank for images. 

This large cloud-based image archive will support decision making in the clinical management of malignant solid tumours, offering predictive tools to assist in diagnosis, prognosis, choice of therapies and follow-up of treatment.

A total of 640,000 euros will be allocated to the University of Pisa and the Department of Translational Research directed by Professor Gaetano Privitera. 

"The biobank is based on the development and validation of new imaging biomarkers through radiomics and radiogenomic algorithms, correlating multiple big data (clinical, epidemiological, genetic, imaging) - explains Emanuele Neri, professor of Diagnostic imaging and radiotherapy at the University and coordinator of the project - the data collected will allow to create profiles or digital models of cancer patients and can be used as a reference for the customization of treatments, the stratification of risk to the development of cancer, the estimation of prognosis and responsiveness to treatment.

The project also provides for the implementation of artificial intelligence algorithms able to perform simulations and analysis of multiple data of the biobank, developing an "intelligent" system to support the diagnosis (in-silico decision making). A tool that will allow the diagnostic imaging to increase the accuracy in the diagnosis and follow-up of oncological disease, and the oncologist to develop, on digital models, custom therapies.
