As digitalization, research is becoming increasingly data-driven. Now the EU is working to open up and make available research data - interconnected databases and supercomputers are part of the recipe.

Just as data is the gold for companies, data is gold for the research. And while research has a tradition of sharing its results, it's not always a tradition to share the data on which the results are based.

But a real change is taking place now. For a couple of years, transparency has become the EU's lead in research.

The EU established its focus on transparency in 2016 when research commissioner Carlos Moedas set three goals: open innovation, open science, open to the world.

The openness is also formulated in what is called the fair principles. F stands for findable that data should be searchable in a database, A stands for accessible, data should be available - downloadable. You stand for interoperable, ie, data should be in copying and copying format and R stands for reusable, under license that allows other researchers to work with them.

And Sweden goes hand in hand with the EU.

"It is part of our national policy to be part of the open system the EU is currently working on, but also to introduce an open research system in which we share data and research results.
