Academic journal publishing is broken: we need a new model

Summary:
"A co-operative model for publishing - owned and operated by the academic community - would allow for any profit to be ploughed back into the community: in the form of workshops, scholarships or expansion of the journal(s). Given how much the research community already pays (through library subscriptions, open access article processing feeds, peer review process, etc), it makes sense for this investment to be recycled back into our community."
