Travels, 1

Off on a long and complicated trip. But I don’t think I am a good traveller.
On Friday I started the day with the symptoms of a really awful cold, and unable to take any prophylactic medicine for quite some time. Saturday was our train journey down to London at the start of the adventure; fortunately the symptoms had ebbed a bit by that time. But the train was quite crowded, and we had been unable to reserve seats, for reasons known only to LNER (though the man behind the counter at Leuchars station tried to help). We got on, and managed to get two seats where the signs said, “May be reserved later”. Fortunately, at Haymarket, we were able to switch to two seats which were “Available”, so the rest of the journey was less fraught.
In London, it was necessary to get enough food for a couple of days, so I had to venture out when I would probably have preferred staying in bed.
The main problem was that there were many things I had planned to catch up on during the train journey or the couple of days in London; but my brain seems to have turned to cotton wool, and I have been unable to do anything serious. Fortunately all my talks were prepared before we left home.
Availability of Internet connection permitting, I will let you know about the trip as it develops.
