OPERAS welcomes European Alliance for Social Science and Humanities
OPERAS 2025-03-12

We are glad to welcome the European Alliance for Social Sciences and Humanities as a new ordinary member of the OPERAS community in 2025.
About EASSH
EASSH is the largest advocacy and science policy organisation for the social sciences and humanities in Europe. The alliance has over 80 member organisations including a wide range of disciplinary areas, stakeholders and universities from across Europe – and encompassing over 100,000 researchers.
The main purposes of EASSH are to promote learning and research in the social sciences and humanities (SSH) as a resource for Europe and the world, and to engage with policymakers and research funders in support of the social sciences and humanities.
What EASSH does
EASSH focuses on the science policy environment and highlights the importance of SSH research for policymakers, with the aim of encouraging them to continue support for scholars in these disciplines. EASSH publishes position papers, organises workshops, and carries out other events and activities in the science policy environment – but not as translational research for all types of policies.
EASSH provides:
- a coherent voice in science policy from a SSH perspective in Europe and beyond;
- a platform for engagement among its member organisations and for the promotion of a shared commitment to the advancement of the SSH;
- a channel for information, ideas, policy proposals and consultations shared between its member organisations and policymakers, advisers, and other practitioners.
EASSH engages with policy institutions on the design, implementation and oversight of multi-national and European research programmes.
EASSH promotes the role of the social sciences and humanities in support of more informed, innovative, cohesive, sustainable and resilient societies.
“We are very excited to join OPERAS. This is strategic collaboration by two large membership organisations with a specific focus on the social sciences and humanities. EASSH intends to contribute to the Advocacy Special Interest Group by sharing its proven expertise in science policy advocacy.” (Gabi Lombardo, EASSH Director)
EASSH contributes to the Advocacy Special Interest Group, whose primary goals are to advocate for open scholarly communication in the social sciences and humanities. EASSH fully supports its aim of “empowering communities to influence decision-making processes” and looks forward to bringing its expertise to the table.
We are looking forward to further collaborations.
