Modern Tools and Ancient Documents: Conference „Virtual Research Environments and Ancient Manuscripts“ – SNSF MARK16 project

OPERAS 2020-05-13

In collaboration with OPERAS-P – a project of the OPERAS research infrastructure – and Classics@ Journal, endorsed by the European Association for Digital Humanities (EADH) and Humanistica, the conference „Virtual Research Environments and Ancient Manuscripts“ will be held from 10–11 September 2020 in Lausanne, Switzerland. It is organized by Claire Clivaz (DH+, member of SIB, Lausanne, PI of the PRIMA SNSF MARK16 project and OPERAS member) and Garrick Allen (Dublin University).

Virtual research environments (VREs) serve to achieve research goals more efficiently by enabling cooperative, simultaneous research activities at different locations. With the development being still at the beginning, the use of VREs strongly depends on the respective discipline-specific requirements. Considering this, the conference in Lausanne will focus on the methodological transformations that VREs bring to the study of ancient manuscripts, from basic research questions to data management and evaluation.

Schedule:

Thursday 10 September: 9:00–16:30 (papers); 17:00–20:00 (slam session and posters).
