Suzanne Dumouchel has been elected to become one of 8 directors of the EOSC Association

On December 17, 2020, approximately 140 voting research institutions from across Europe met to elect the eight-member executive committee of the European Open Science Cloud Association (EOSC), the so-called Board of Directors. The EOSC Board implements the decisions of the EOSC General Assembly and is thus the most important body in the European Open Science Cloud Association.

OPERAS is glad to announce that Suzanne Dumouchel, coordinator of OPERAS, was elected as one of a total of eight honorary board members for a term of three years. In her role as OPERAS coordinator Suzanne Dumouchel develops and supports OPERAS partnerships strategy. Besides this, Suzanne is working at the Very Large Infrastructure Huma-Num (CNRS unit) and is the scientific coordinator of the TRIPLE project.

The EOSC online event saw Karel Luyben from CESAER elected as the first president of the EOSC Association. All in all eight directors were elected for the  board, including Marialuisa Lavitrano (UNIMIB), Suzanne Dumouchel (CNRS/OPERAS), Klaus Tochtermann (ZBW) for a three-year mandate; Sarah Jones (GÉANT) and Ignacio Blanquer (UPV) for a two-year mandate; and Wilhelm Widmark (SU), Bob Jones (CERN) and Ronan Byrne (HEAnet) for a one-year mandate.

The European Open Science Cloud will federate existing scientific data infrastructures, currently dispersed across disciplines and within the EU Member States. The aim is to provide researchers with a virtual environment in which they can store, manage, analyze and reuse research data across scientific boundaries. Therefore, the initiative brings together existing data infrastructures. The EOSC Association was established as a legal entity on July 29, 2020 to steer this initiative.

OPERAS, the European Research Infrastructure for the development of open scholarly communication in the social sciences and humanities, participates in building the EOSC in different ways: OPERAS is a member of the EOSC Association with Elena Giglia (Head of the Open Access Office at the University of Turin) as Delegate. OPERAS is part of the TRIPLE project that is developing the OPERAS Discovery Service and plans to integrate a full discovery platform for SSH resources on the EOSC. Besides this, OPERAS operates already two services on the the EOSC Marketplace:

• the OPERAS Certification service (DOAB): https://marketplace.eosc-portal.eu/services/operas-certification-doab/ . The Certification Service operates as a quality insurance service for the benefit of readers and the service providers working with them, such as the libraries. DOAB collects the variety of peer reviewing practices from hundreds of monograph publishing houses, categorizes them, and provides a single access point to the list of certified peer reviewed monographs available in Open Access in the world.
• the OPERAS Research for Society (Hypotheses): https://marketplace.eosc–portal.eu/services/operas-research-for-society-hypotheses/ . This service will be further developed in the COESO project, which will started in January 2021.
