Job Description:

The Digital Scholarship Librarian provides leadership in the development, implementation, promotion, and assessment of digital scholarly initiatives. Participates in the Library’s Faculty Partnership program. Participates in the Library’s instruction program. Provides research services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provides leadership in the development, implementation, promotion, and assessment of digital scholarly initiatives. This includes:

  • collaborating with librarians, faculty, students, and academic partners to explore, define, develop, advocate, assess, and sustain innovative digital projects,
  • serving as an advisor for digital scholarship projects across campus,
  • identifying and evaluating digital scholarship resources and technologies for acquisition, recommending and introducing to campus community,
  • Staying abreast of emerging, innovative trends and technologies, standards, publishing models, and digital scholarship developments,
  • designing and teaching workshops on digital scholarship tools, resources, and best practices,
  • providing leadership in and participating in a team-based library environment,
  • hiring, training, and supervising student workers as necessary.

Participates in the Library’s Faculty Partnership program as a librarian partner to one or more academic units. This includes:

  • building and maintaining professional relationships with faculty and students by assessing needs, and working with library colleagues to develop responsive services, programs, and collections that address those needs and that support student learning and retention, and faculty research and teaching,
  • working proactively with faculty and in conjunction with the Instruction Coordinator and other teaching librarians to integrate instructional programs into the curriculum,
  • promoting library services and resources, and providing orientations for new faculty and students,
  • collaboratively conducting the assessment of services, programs, collections, and student learning.

Provides research services. This includes:

  • serving on the Library’s Research Services Team,
  • providing research services 7-10 hours per week,
  • providing in-depth research assistance through individual appointments.

Participates in the professional work of the Library and department. This includes:

  • assisting in the discussion and formulation of Library policies and procedures, in the resolution of problems, and dissemination of information,
  • monitoring developments in librarianship through attendance at meetings and workshops, membership in professional associations, and the reading of professional literature,
  • participating in the Library’s collection development,
  • promoting an image of efficiency, courtesy, and expertise throughout the University community and consistent with the Library’s mission,
  • contributing to the public relations and marketing of the Library,
  • acting as a responsible committee and/or task force representative,
  • attending staff meetings as requested,
  • communicating effectively with supervisor concerning pertinent departmental and/or University matters.

Perform other related duties as directed or dictated by responsibilities. Duties may be changed and/or added at any time.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in Library & Information Science (MLS or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program, second Master’s in subject-specific field or equivalent related experience is preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge of current practices in digital scholarship. Project management experience. Evidence of potential in teaching. Professional academic reference experience. Interest in marketing, outreach, and the promotion of library services.  Must be well organized, and able to meet deadlines and multiple demands.  Demonstrated ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, to a variety of audiences.  Must be results-oriented, flexible, self-motivated, and have an enthusiasm for teaching and technology, and an ability to collaborate with colleagues in a goal-oriented library team.  Creative approach to the development of new services; commitment to responsive and innovative service is essential.
  • Requires some evening and weekend hours.
