Vale Emeritus Professor David Tunley AM FAHA Chevalier de l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques 1930 – 2024
Australian Academy of the Humanities 2024-07-01
Elected to the Academy in 1979, David was internationally recognised as the leading authority on the 18th-century French cantata, and his 1974 book on the subject became the classic study of this form.
David originally trained as pianist at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. He began as the first full-time lecturer in the then new UWA Department of Music in 1958, was appointed to a Personal Chair in 1980, and then became the Chair of Music in 1989.
We extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. He will be greatly missed.
An obituary is being prepared and will be available in due course.
