Vale Professor Michael Osborne FAHA 1942 – 2024

Elected to the Academy in 1985, Michael was a Hellenist whose significant scholarly contributions have been in the fields of Greek epigraphy and Greek history.

Michael had served as Professor of Classics at the University of Melbourne (1983-1989) and subsequently as Vice-Chancellor of La Trobe University (1990-2006), where he founded the National Centre for Hellenic Studies and Research.

We extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. He will be greatly missed.
