Vale Emeritus Professor Keith Campbell FAHA 1938 – 2024

Elected to the Academy in 1977, Keith was a pioneer in Australian philosophy. He was a leading figure in metaphysics, defending, inter alia, materialism and trope theory.

He was an Emeritus Professor at the Department of Philosophy at the University of Sydney where he served for many years, including as Challis Professor from 1991 to 2002. A voice of reason and figure of stability, in 1973 Keith originally suggested that the University form two philosophy departments.

We extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. He will be greatly missed.
