Dr James (Jim) Masselos FAHA: 1940 – 2025

Jim was elected to the Academy in 2008 as a leading social historian of contemporary India and particularly an authority on the social history of Bombay/Mumbai.
He was an indefatigable and inspirational teacher, advocate, administrator and researcher in the field of Asian studies.
Jim successively served as Council Member, Secretary, and President of the South Asian Studies Association, has been a Council Member of the Asian Studies Association of Australia, and the Asian Arts Society. He also served on the editorial boards of South Asia, the Asian Studies Review and The Asian Arts Society of Australia Review.
We extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. He will be greatly missed.
