Expression of Interest: Policy Committee
Australian Academy of the Humanities 2025-07-17
Dear Fellows,
I write to you in my capacity as Policy Lead on Council and Chair of the Academy’s Policy Committee. We have a vacancy on the Committee and invite expressions of interest (EOI) from any Fellow who is keen to contribute to the advocacy and advice that the Academy provides to the Australian Government, education and research sectors, and the broader public.
The Policy Committee is principally drawn from the Academy’s Fellowship. Members will normally serve for two years, with the option of a third year, or a second two-year term. The Committee’s Terms of Reference are available here.
The Policy Committee meets quarterly, and works intersessionally, to:
- provide guidance and advice to the Academy’s Policy Lead on policy priorities and opportunities
- support the development of the Academy’s strategic policy agenda
- review and provide feedback on significant policy inputs and major research reports
- collaborate to develop policy positions
- advise on and connect the Academy with key stakeholders
- establish ad hoc working groups in support of policy and research initiatives.
Our current members bring a unique range of experience and expertise, see here.
We are seeking expertise and professional interest in any or all of the following areas:
- policy development
- higher education and research and/or other areas of disciplinary expertise in the policy domain
- public humanities
- Indigenous studies
- industry (broadly defined).
Please provide a brief (300 word) EOI to outlining your experience and interest in the role to the Policy and Research Director, Dr Kylie Brass, via email kylie.brass@humanities.org.au by noon Monday 4 August.
Fellows who had previously expressed interest in joining the Policy Committee are also invited to submit a new EOI.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Fellows of the Academy are encouraged to nominate for the position.
A selection committee, comprising the Academy’s President, Policy Lead, Executive Director, and Director Policy and Research will review EOIs.
If you have questions about expectations, please get in touch with either myself or Kylie (working Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays).
Regards,
Sue
