Vale Marion Maddox FAHA 1965 – 2025

Marion was elected to the Academy in 2017 as a leading authority on the intersection of religion and politics in Australia.

As a recipient of an Australian Parliamentary Fellowship, Marion was a regular commentator on issues of religion and politics in the Australian media. She authored the book God Under Howard: The rise of the religious right in Australian politics, which compared the Howard Government with the religious right in the United States and criticised the decline of mainstream Christianity in Australia.

We extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends and colleagues. She will be greatly missed.
