Fellows recognised in 2021 Australia Day Honours

The Academy warmly congratulates two of its Fellows who have been awarded honours in this year’s Australia Day Honours list.
Emeritus Professor John Melville-Jones AM FRNS FAHA was awarded Member (AM) in the General Division for significant service to tertiary education in Greek, Roman and Byzantine history and numismatics. Professor Melville-Jones is Senior Honorary Research Fellow in Classics and Ancient History at the University of Western Australia. His research focusses on Byzantine and Venetian History and Greek and Roman coins. He is a member of the Royal Numismatic Society and in 1993 he was elected a life Fellow of the American Numismatic Society. He received the Prime Minister’s Centenary Medal in 2003 and the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters at Macquarie University in 2016.
Emeritus Professor Wilfrid Prest AM FASSA FAHA was awarded Member (AM) in the General Division for significant service to tertiary education and to the law and legal history. Professor Prest is Emeritus Professor in History and Law at the University of Adelaide. He is a historian of early modern England and one of Australia’s leading scholars of legal history and the legal profession. He is a Fellow of Queen’s College at the University of Melbourne, the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, the Royal Historical Society (UK), a member of the Council of the Selden Society (UK) and was President of the History Council of South Australia.
