The Executive Director is the senior leadership role for the Australian Academy of the Humanities. The Director leads, inspires and drives the organisation to deliver on the strategic direction agreed to by the Council and supports innovation in the way the strategic plan is achieved.
As well as managing the overall performance and financial sustainability of the organisation, the Executive Director must harness support from key stakeholders and build a strong organisational culture based on the organisation’s core values.
The Executive Director has executive responsibility for all functions including: • Policy, strategy and planning • Advocacy, relationship/stakeholder management • Council and governance • Program management and development • Financial management and administration • Communications and engagement • Leadership and culture

The Executive Director is supported by a small team of professionals, committed to the delivery of the vision and purpose of the Academy.

About you
We’re looking for someone who is seeking the opportunity to play a key leadership role in informing, connecting and inspiring the humanities community.
To be successful in this position you’ll have:
- Outstanding people leadership capability
- Strong collaboration and superior interpersonal skills
- Deep knowledge of and commitment to issues facing the humanities.
- Skills in building non-partisan support across the political spectrum and effective government relations with demonstrated impact.
- Demonstrated success in growing an organisation’s revenue base
- Strong and confident communicator
- Strong financial and business acumen.
- Excellent priority-setting and organisational skills
Experience and Qualifications
- Extensive leadership experience in a relevant institution (for example, a not-for-profit or public institution) including working with a Board to establish organisational goals, strategies and KPIs
- Experience working with government, in policy development, including coordinating strategic national projects
- Demonstrated expertise with higher education and research
