Architectural Salvage - Histories of Commerce and Guardianship
Calenda 2026-09-24
Summary:
The conference explores the long history of architectural salvage and the reuse of building materials through the intertwined dichotomies of commerce and governance. Inspired by Jane Jacobs’ distinction between commercial and guardian moral systems, it seeks contributions that examine the actors, institutions, markets, regulations, and the general socio-economic and socio-technical arrangements that have enabled or constrained the circulation and reuse of architectural components across time and cultures. Scholars from architectural history, archaeology, heritage studies, legal history, archeology, urban studies, cultural economics, circular construction, and related disciplines are encouraged to submit abstracts.
