data_society's bookmarks 2019-10-22
Summary:
Yochai Benkler evaluates the effectivness of disinformation campaigns and how they have been elevated as a cause of the crisis of democratic society.
He suggests that "we may need to understand the political confusion less as a function of intentional, discrete propagandist interventions (though it is those too), and more as one facet of the more basic dynamic of the past decade: the collapse of neoliberalism in the Great Recession and the struggle to define what the new settlement that replaces it must become."
