Abstract
Aim:Thepurposeofthisperspectiveistoreviewtheoptionscountrieshavetoexitthedraconian“lockdowns”inacarefullystagedmanner.Methods:ExpertsfromdifferentcountriesexperiencingCoronaVirusInfectiousDisease2019(COVID-19)reviewedevidenceandcountry-specificapproachesandtheresultsoftheirinterventions.Results:Threefactorsareessential:1.Reintroductionfromcountrieswithongoingcommunitytransmission;2.Theneedforextensivetestingcapacityandwidespreadcommunitytesting,and3.Anadequatesupplyofpersonalprotectiveequipment,PPE,toprotecthealthcareworkers.Discussedatlengthareliftingphysicaldistancing,howtoopenmanufacturingandconstruction,logistics,andtheopeningofhighereducationalinstitutionsandschools.Theuseofelectronicsurveillanceisconsidered.Conclusion:Eachcountryshoulddecideonthebestpathforward.However,wecanlearnfromeachother,andtheapproachesare,inreality,verysimilar.©2020TheAuthors.PublishedbyElsevierLtdonbehalfofInternationalSocietyforInfectiousDiseases.ThisisanopenaccessarticleundertheCCBY-NC-NDlicense(http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/)
