What is the aim of the project?

Luftdaten.info is a Citizen Science project initiated by OK Lab Stuttgart. It is part of the Code for Germany program of the Open Knowledge Foundation Germany which deals with issues related to air quality and noise measurements in public spaces. With the help of fine dust sensors and noise measurement sensors, you can measure PM2.5 and PM10 particles or the equivalent continuous sound level (LAeq). The data is visualized in an interactive map where users can search for any location of interest. The aim is to find out, for example, how the traffic volume in cities like Stuttgart relates to the air quality and noise level. Lay people and researchers can build their own low-cost measuring instruments and thereby help to generate data and keep the map updated.

How can Luftdaten.info help me?

The site offers an interactive map that renders fine dust visible. Through sensors, this map is updated at regular intervals and can be viewed here. 

You can download the raw data here and start to analyze it with a GIS tool or do some statistical analysis.  

How can I use Luftdaten.info, and what are its benefits?

As already mentioned, you can help with this project by building your own sensor and contributing more data. You may either participate in their local workshop held in Stuttgart, Germany or you can just go to their website where you will find instructions on how to build your own sensor, which you can then install at your house wall or any other desired location.
