Summary:

"There are more professors than ever hoping to teach the open source development process to their students—but working in the open source world can be a daunting proposition. Professors themselves have only a limited amount of time to learn about open source, and are often unsure about how, exactly, to get started. In this Community Call Heidi Ellis and Greg Hislop will talk about the educational opportunities provided by the TeachingOpenSource community, a Software Freedom Conservancy member. Both Greg and Heidi are on the coordinating committee for TeachingOpenSource. They will also discuss their continued National Science Foundation funded effort in this area including efforts to help instructors get started supporting student involvement in open source. They will also discuss the POSSE (Professors' Open Source Software Experience). POSSE is a faculty workshop covering the tools and practices of open source communities, designed for professors looking for ways to bring their students into active participation in those communities...."
