Expansion of Asian-European collaboration (AER) - NORDUnet, 14 March 2023

"The Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) joins NORDUnet and nine other partners in the Asia-Pacific-Europe Ring.The inclusion of KISTI in the network collaboration was confirmed today in a signing ceremony during the opening plenary of the APAN 55 conference. The Asia-Pacific-Europe Ring (AER) is a collaboration between major Asia-Pacific and European research and education networks to create a shared, high-capacity network infrastructure between Asia and Europe. With the addition of Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI), a significant level of resilience is added. NORDUnet has been an AER partner since the establishment of the collaboration in 2019. KISTI operates KREONET, the national research and education network (NREN) of Korea. The advanced network infrastructure and expertise will strengthen the AER backbone within East Asia and Europe, fostering greater collaboration and scientific advancements across the regions. KISTI has recently procured a 100 Gbit/s connection between Daejeon, Republic of Korea, and Singapore, and from Singapore to Amsterdam, the Netherlands...."
