Supporting community-based open research initiatives - Jisc

"The scholarly communication landscape is made up of multiple stakeholders, with a substantial number operating as mission driven or not-for-profit. Many of these products and initiatives do not have paywalls and do not require subscriptions to access or use them and instead rely on alternative forms of funding to ensure their sustainability. Jisc’s supporter membership agreements and the new open access community framework enable Jisc members to support these products and initiatives whilst providing budget predictability and reassurance of the supplier’s open research credentials. The commitment of higher education institutions to open scholarship has already encouraged libraries to think differently about the purpose of their budgets and their alignment with institutional missions relating to open research and social responsibility. The challenge now is how supporting community-based models scales up and how institutions choose who to support. This event has been organised in recognition of the rapid growth of the community-based model. Attendees will learn more about the goals of these initiatives and how other institutions have adapted, which will inform more efficient funding decisions. This event will: Provide an opportunity to hear from institutions that have made changes to their internal policies to support open content initiatives Introduce participants in the 2022 Open Access Community Framework Explain how SCOSS works and introduce the services currently requesting funding..."
