Summary:
As the German National Library of Science and Technology our future-oriented services ensure the infrastructural requirements for a high-quality supply of information and literature for research in science and industry. Our services as a university library secure the local supply for the Leibniz University Hannover. The Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB) – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology – Program Area B, usage and information systems, is looking to employ a Software Engineer (PHP) (m/f/d) to work in our publishing services as of 1.1.2023. The position is fixed initially for a period of three years. The number of hours per week is 39.80 (full-time). The position is only partially suitable for part-time work. The remuneration is based on pay scale group 13 TV-L. You will be working on an EU-funded project on Open Access technologies. You will be working with Open Journal Systems (OJS), one of the leading free software systems for publishing journals and conference publications. You will participate in the further development of the software with project partners and maintainers of the Public Knowledge Project (PKP). Development work will take place in the following main task areas: Multilingualism; Privacy/GDPR; Interoperability; Metadata Quality. Your tasks Development of new functionalities of the publishing software (in PHP) Development of data interfaces between different publishing systems Development of prototypes and presentations Collaborating with the international team of project partners Your qualities University degree (Bachelor/FH-Diploma or Master/Higher Education Diploma or equivalent), preferably in computer science or in a related field Very good knowledge of PHP Knowledge of relational databases Good knowledge of English (written and spoken) Responsible working style Readiness to familiarise yourself with new technologies and tasks Experience in setting up, maintaining and operating digital services Agile, goal- and solution-oriented approach with proven implementation skills Familiarity with the development, adaption and configuration of web applications Communication and collaboration skills Desirable Knowledge of Javascript technologies, Laravel, web interfaces and XML technologies Good knowledge of the German language Experience with scientific publishing software, preferably Open Journal Systems Experience in (international) software projects Readiness to develop concepts and ideas of your own and to implement them What we offer The project to be carried out takes place in a European and international context and involves more than 20 partners. You will receive a thorough introduction to the journal management software Open Journal Systems used. By working in the project, you will gain insights into the most widely used free journal management software in the world and an overview of the players in the field. TIB operates its own publishing service TIB Open Publishing on the basis of OJS, in the context of which further third-party funded projects and development projects are also planned for the future. An extension of the position after the end of the project is being sought.
