Author: Charles Dickens
It tells the story of a greedy and selfish man named Ebenezer Scrooge and his transformation after being visited by a series of ghosts on Christmas Eve.
The book was written and published during the Victorian era, a time when there was a great nostalgia for old Christmas traditions and new customs such as Christmas trees and greeting cards were beginning to be introduced.
Dickens’ inspirations for writing the novel seem to be many and varied, but the main ones are the sad and humiliating experiences of his childhood, his sympathy for the poor, and various Christmas stories and fairy tales.

3) White Nights
Author: Fiódor Dostoiévski
White Nights is a short story originally published in 1848, early in the writer’s career.
Like many of Dostoevsky’s stories, White Nights is told in the first person by an unnamed narrator. The narrator is a young man who lives in St. Petersburg and suffers from loneliness. He meets and falls in love with a young woman, but the love is unrequited as the woman misses her lover, with whom she is eventually reunited.
