Opting the Best Route to QTLS – Level 5 DET/DTLLS

The most popular route to Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills status is the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, formerly known as DTLLS. If you want to teach at Higher Education (HE) or Further Education (FE) institutions, this L5 DET would be the best way to do it. It’s also the fastest and least expensive method of obtaining the QTLS. It is quick since the manner of learning is completely online, and no internship or apprenticeship is necessary. It is completely flexible and can be completed at your own pace, with one-on-one tutor help.

Am I Eligible?

Here is how to check whether you are eligible to apply for QTLS status:

  • Have a Level 5 or higher teaching qualification like L5 DET/DTLLS
  • Hold eligible level 2 Maths and English qualifications
  • Hold a level 3 qualification in all subjects taught during professional formation
  • You must teach or train in a Further Education and Training setting, throughout the Professional Formation programme, for a minimum of four hours per week
  • You will be teaching groups of five or more post-14 students on a regular basis throughout the Professional Formation programme
  • Have found a suitable supporter

How to Apply For QTLS Status?

After earning your Level 5 DET certificate, which requires about six months of professional development, or completing your PGCE, you must submit an application for the QTLS through the Society of Education and Training (SET).
