Summary:
In 2025 South Korea will become the first Horizon Europe associate member in Asia. In this post, Vice-President of KISTEP (Korea Institute of Science & Technology Evaluation and Planning) outlined Korea’s situation on research data management and sharing, as one of the obligations of Horizon Europe.
According to Vice-President, despite existing initiatives such as the national research data platform DataON, awareness and preparation among domestic researchers are still insufficient. The situation can improve if the National Research Data Management Bill, which was proposed at the end of the last year, is passed (currently under consideration https://likms.assembly.go.kr/bill/billDetail.do?billId=PRC_A2A3Y0Z9X0Y6G1G5F2D8E4C5D3K5J5). If passed as a law, it will foster harmonised policies for systematic management and sharing of publicly funded research data, including mandatory Data Management Plans (DMPs) for all R&D projects.
