Summary:

Abstract "This chapter sets the stage for the problem of producing “solid research,” and how to preserve and share knowledge for others to build on. It outlines what cumulative science is, what responsible conduct of research means, and why, when combined, these are the most effective approaches to obtaining reproducible and reliable data. It highlights the importance of transparency in science and does so concretely at every step of the research process. It provides practical suggestions for setting up a good workflow, including planning the research, file management, and day-to-day research documentation. It also explains the importance of pre-registering studies before data collection starts and introduces the major tenets of Open Science with suggestions on best practices."
