Summary:

"MDPI will participate in the Science Summit at the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 79) in New York from 23–27 September, 2024. Our presence at this global event shows our commitment to advancing Open Science as a key driver for sustainable development. As a leading Open Access publisher, MDPI's role at the summit is to emphasize the critical importance of democratizing scientific knowledge, making it accessible to all, and promoting global collaboration. Through Open Access publishing, we aim to address pressing global challenges such as climate change, public health, and inequality, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)..."

For the Science Summit, MDPI prepared a Policy Paper (https://res.mdpi.com/data/24corp-un-policy-paper-a4.pdf), which makes a powerful plea for wider support of Open Science as a prerequisite to achieving the SDGs by 2030. It provides four actionable recommendations to unleash the full potential of Open Science in the service of Sustainable Development: 1) Encouraging Open Access by formulating targeted policies at global, regional, national, and institutional levels. 2) Promoting data sharing with the support of robust and enforceable guidelines on ethics and security. 3) Fostering cross-cutting international collaboration involving governments and NGOs, academia and industry, public and private sector, and civil society. 4)   Capacity building through targeted investments in infrastructure, communication, education, and training.
