Summary:

"As of 1st April 2013, if your research is funded by one of the seven Research Councils of the RCUK, you are required to make sure that any article you publish is freely accessible online to everyone, everywhere with a license that permits copying, distribution, and reuse.  This new policy from RCUK is designed to help make publicly funded research easily available to all who might benefit from it.  At PLOS this is a principle we’ve supported since our inception. We believe all research articles should be immediately available on publication, without restriction and with no fees for access. The RCUK’s strong preference is for publishing in Open Access journals that provide immediate, free access to your article on publication (‘Gold Open Access’), with unrestricted re-use of content, usually upon payment of an Article Processing Charge (APC).  All articles published by PLOS are ‘Gold Open Access’ with a CC BY licence, which represents full compliance with RCUK policy.  All you need do to fulfill your funding council’s new requirement is to select which of our leading journals to publish in.  Publish your next article with PLOS for easy and immediate compliance with the new RCUK Open Access Policy, read on for more information ..."
