Summary:

"This week is the eighth annual Open Access Week, a global event offering the academic and research communities an opportunity to celebrate, discuss and learn about the potential benefits of Open Access. Debates around Open Access have challenged us to think in new ways and engage more dynamically with our authors. This is why we have chosen this week to announce our new Open Access unit which will work to ensure we can rise to the fast pace of change within this area. We have been active players in the Open Access arena since 2007, publishing over a thousand freely available journal(s) articles’. Recently we have launched some significant new journal, including Global Mental Health, Forum of Mathematics and Parasitology Open and this month also saw the release of our first Open Access books, including The History Manifesto. By forming an Open Access unit, we will be building on our work over the past few years, the new unit will develop and support Open Access across the Press, by putting in place a clear strategy, and developing and implementing new initiatives, methods and processes to meet increasing demand for open forms of publication. At the Press we are committed to the widest possible dissemination of published research, and this includes supporting access models desired by the academic communities we serve. These are exciting times and we look forward to announcing more details in due course ..."
